The Story behind this Parisian Artist’s Watercolors

This early August morning, I'm walking to get my café and pain au chocolat (Note: chocolatine to those us us from the Sud-Ouest!) and find "Martin" setting up his watercolors and finished works, hopeful for some morning sales. "Much easier to paint than to sell," he explains to me as his delicate fingers clothes-pin the little masterpieces to a chain-link fence.

He tells me that he's been painting the real and imaginary streets of Paris for three-decades and it never gets old. "The people, the lights, the colors, the energy... it's what I do and what I've always done. Am happy to share my work with the world, but it's not always easy for 'the world' to find me!"

And so, Martin sets up and takes down his pop-up collection of paintings each day in a different section of neighborhood or street -- wherever he is inspired -- hoping to be discovered by discerning locals and eager visitors.

I buy one of his painting for me and another one to share with my Westside Market audience. Perhaps one of you will be inspired by Martin's vision of Paris, too, and take this little corner of Paris home.
